Watson Honored as Washington's Top Green Manufacturer
Poulsbo, WA – September 23, 2011

Watson (www.watsonfurniture.com) was named the Top Green Manufacturer in Washington by Seattle Business magazine. The announcement came at Seattle Business' Green 50 awards which were held on September 21, 2011 at the Fremont Studios in Seattle.

Clif McKenzie, Watson CEO, accepted the award on behalf of the company saying “We have one environmental guiding principle: we are going to do what we can do to return this world in a better condition than we found it. It is a simple one that all of our kids know; it’s a simple one that I think our parents would be proud of.”

Watson was honored for its demonstrated commitment to sustainable manufacturing processes and products including: design and maintenance of a manufacturing facility that has no floor drains, self contained and regulated disposal of waste water, use of regionally sourced materials that contain high recycled content, and manufacturing products that are end-of-use recyclable - some as high as 100%.

According to Cia Mooney, Watson VP of Product Development, "When we design products, we aim for green and super green. We pursue closing the loop between the waste that is a by-product of manufacturing and our ability to reuse that waste in a manner that lightens our environmental impact.”

Andy Philley, Watson’s VP of Manufacturing, adds “This award recognizes Watson’s commitment to continual process improvement. We refine our materials regularly and aggressively seek to reduce waste. We will continue to educate ourselves and our customers by improving quality standards and practical environmentalism goals.”

Watson, named top Manufacturer, submitted an application in June alongside other companies throughout the state. Those submissions were reviewed by a panel. From that, Watson landed among ten other companies recognized as leaders in the following categories: retail, services, non-profit, healthcare, technology, government/academia, natural resources/agriculture, building/architecture, special leadership, reuse, and manufacturing.

Watson will be featured in the October, Green 50, issue of Seattle Business magazine, on newsstands in October and available for viewing at www.seattlebusinessmag.com.
